BAXI Boilers Heat DHS Apartment Blocks

The DHS public housing development in Windsor shows the way for clean green design. Known as the K2 Apartments they were constructed in 2006 and consist of 96 modern apartments in four medium rise buildings of four, five and eight stories, designed by Melbourne architecture firm ‘Design Inc’ and linked by a unique green spine feature. The Victorian State Housing Minister commented that “The many green features in the design deliver savings to tenants through lower energy and water costs and multiply the benefits to the environment through lower greenhouse emissions.”

After some years of service the original heating plant required replacement and BAXI Duo-tec MP+ condensing type boilers were chosen to retrofit and provide heating requirements for two of the main buildings. The Baxi boilers are classified as Type A and are fully AGA compliant.

This installation was completed with a bank of 4 and a bank of 5 x Duo-Tec 110kW MP’s installed in cascade to provide two buildings with heating and hot water respectively. For the installation the Doc-Tec MP boilers were installed as wall hung indoor units, with the minimal footprint required making for a compact installation. A fill system and condensate treatment tank were utilised, and as the job was in an existing indoor plant room, high/low ventilation requirements were satisfactory to use a single stainless steel flue.
